SOLO COUNTRY
‘...self penned material, and wonderful live players who have been so inspirational in my musical journey.’
For many years on solo gigs it was just me and my guitar! ‘Solo Country’, the album, came about because I had began using midi files as backing and recording a few songs, in a local studio, so wanted to up the standard by presenting a full live backing, that gave the audience more of a live band experience, but, because of timescale and after discussion with Dave Hayward at the DH studio, we decided to add some live instrumentation to a very basic midi bass and drums, which gave me an almost instant improvement to take on gigs.
This album was never designed to be a totally professional project but an improvement on midi files, to work with. To our surprise, ‘Solo Country’ was very popular, possibly due to to Dave’s studio skills, and some well placed steel playing, and some well chosen popular country songs at the time. So, we had a cd to sell at the gigs. It was the forerunner of our future albums, that would feature self penned material, and wonderful live players who have been so inspirational in my musical journey.
These days all my backing tracks on solo gigs give me the benefit of sounds that audiences are used to hearing on my albums, from all the players I have had the privilege to work with. For me one track that I am inspired to record again is The River, which was popular on my gigs. So it is hoped that this will come to fruition on the planned next album.
